bunny barn yard

November 3, 2010 three 4-h kids Desirae, Chloe and Will went to the fair to do a rabbit showing. There was many other 4-h kids and many different tipes of rabbits like a Mini Rex and a Havvanah. Our favorite bunny was a new born Havvanah that looked like a nugget. There was also a rabbit called a Netherland Dwarf. It looked almost like a Chipmunk. Though they looked cute, they were not very nice. Another kind of rabbit was the Giant. They were 5x the size of the Dwarf. There were a few others like the Lion Head. It was very puffy, so much you could barely see it's face. There were other animals too. Such as cows, chickens, sheep, and horses. We hope to see you at the Greater Jacksonville Agricultural Fair.

Centers

In Ms. Snyder's class, every day we do centers right after R.T.I.. The centers are computer, buddy reading, flip book, group reading, guided reading, reading games, independent reading, reading kit, and the smart board. On the computer we go to learning websites such as F.C.A.T. Explorer. When we buddy read we read one book and take turns reading with a partner. For the flip book center we make a flip book that is related to a story. In group reading we read a book with our group. In guided reading we read with either Mrs.Luis-Jorge or Mrs.Snyder. When we do the reading games we pick one board game that relates to reading and play with other people. When we independently read we read by our self. when we use the reading kit we read a short story that is either a fairy tale, historical fiction, realistic fiction, mystery suspense, or just plain fantasy.Finaly we want to tell you about the fun times we have on the smartboard. On the snartboard we play reading comprehension games.Sometimes while doing other centers we look at the group that is on the smartboard. So we just wanted all of you panther parents to know what we do in class!

Spelling Free Choice

Dear Panther Parents,
Many kids complain about homework but with the new spelling free choice activity, kids get to have fun and be creative. For example kids can go to websites to mix and match words to make spelling fun for them. Kids can also make posters of their spelling words. Here are a few websites you can go to:
www.wordle.net
www.spellingcity.com
www.puzzlemaker.com
Remember, if you do something on the computer, you must print something out to turn in.

Class Newsletter 8-27

Classroom Times 8-27-2010

Thursday, August 26, 2010

Welcome!

Greetings and welcome to our class blog!  We have had a busy week this week and I hope the students have had a wonderful time.  We have spent this week getting to know one another and establishing our rituals and routines.
I wanted to make you aware of several things.  First of all, I will no longer be doing a weekly newsletter.  I will do the first newslettter that will go home tomorrow.  However, after that, the students will be responsible for creating the class newsletter.  This means they will be learning how to use the word processor.  They will also learn how to add graphics to the newsletters.  I am very excited about this change.  I think the students will look forward to having a chance to share current events with everyone.
The students will also be writing/blogging about what is happening in our classrooms.  Each day, a "Roving Reporter" will be selected to write about the happenings in our classroom.  I know as a parent, we frequently ask our children what they did in school each day only to hear the response of "nothing."  Well, the "Roving Reporter" is designed to give you a look into our classroom.  Students will be responsible for writing about the days events.  I will post these reports on another blog called Ms. Snyder's Panthers. http://snyderspanthers.blogspot.com/  Feel free to check this out to see what is happening in your child's classes.
Mrs. Schermann and I also use team building and class building activities frequently in our instruction.  Students are frequently paired up and required to work together.  We have practiced working together and have made our expectations clear in this area.  We require the students to greet one another in a courteous manner.  We then time their opportunity for sharing with one another so that each student has an equal chance to talk.  We then conclude each session with a compliment.  We feel this will build self-esteem and reduce bullying incidence. So far, the students have done a "FABULOUS" job of working together.
Well, that is all for now.  Look for a class newsletter to go home tomorrow.  Thank you for your support in making this a smooth start to the year.  I look forward to working with you!
