Annotations for Reading

Annotating a Text
The purpose of annotating a text is to record the inner dialogue we as readers have with our text.  It becomes a visual record of your thoughts.

·       Mark any important information
·       Write in the margins (take notes)
·       Summarize in 3-4 words
·       Make predictions
·       State opinions
·       Make connections: text to text, text to self, text to world
·       Look for patterns/repetitions
·       Analyze the author’s craft
·       Reflect on content
·       Reflect on your own reading
·       Jot down questions you have
·       Use underlining or symbols

Be creative and make it work for you!  There is no right or wrong way to annotate.
